I finished it!

I finished the first part of the baby quilt I'm hoping to sell! I have shipped it off to my mom. She will add the batting and the back. She will also add the really nice decorative stitching that will really add some wow to the blanket! I was pretty pleased with how it came out. Now I just need to increase my speed a little bit with the next ones! I would love, love, love some feedback on what you think of it! :)

Where is the summer going?

It really seems like the summer is just flying past us. Austin and I went down to his new school the other day to get him registered. I think he is excited about it. The school really looks nice. Nothing like the pastel green institutional looking Florida schools that I went to when I was his age. The principal seems very proactive and involved with the school. He even has theme based activities that will go on all year long for the kids. I don't quite remember any of my school principals doing anything like that. One other thing I am surprised by is the long list of school supplies we will have to purchase for Austin. On top of that we also have to pay an annual school fee. I was a bit surprised by that, since it is public school, but hey if that means my son gets a good education, then I don't mind. I guess it's better than taking a property tax hike that could be overall much higher. I can only wonder about parents who can't afford that fee. I know there are families out there that cannot afford that. I have seen some individuals struggling to buy their groceries and gas. Hopefully they have scholarships or grants to help those families.

I think Wes is going to miss having Austin around all day. Wesley thinks that his big brother is just that cat's pajamas. He copies and repeats everything he sees Austin do! Hard to imagine in a couple years Wes will be about school age! Time flies!

Blueberry Picking Fun!

Picking Blueberries

The boys and I went berry picking today. I have always wanted to go pick blueberries. When I used to work at Walmart, a customer told me about a place around here to pick berries. I had no idea there was one less than a mile from our house. The berries are finally in season. The boys had a great time. I thouhgt we'd picked a good bit of berries. I was shocked that we had only picked $1.45 worth the berries. We pay far more than that at the grocery store and never end up with as many. I just had to take lots of pictures of the berry picking fun. We want to go back with Eric so he can join in the fun too. Berry season only goes through early August so we have to do it again soon! I'm going to makes some muffins, pancakes, and possibly even a cobbler out of these berries!

Wes did really good at only making sure to pick the ones that were nice and dark. I was very impressed. Austin was a pro at finding the biggest juiciest berries! I have been enjoying our summer weather because it hasn't been too unbearbly hot out. We can actually go to the park late morning and do things like picking berries and actually enjoy being outside wihout the heat making us miserable. I am so thankful. I thought for sure we were going to be in for a scorcher of a summer.
